Members of the VFS Committee, chaired by Ted Golfinopoulos, will again lend their talents to make this time-honored event another successful fundraiser. Volley For SERV raises funds for exceptional programs for special-needs youth and adults throughout New Jersey. It is a daylong event featuring a seven-division doubles tennis tournament followed by an evening reception with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, dinner, open bar, live entertainment, silent auction, Super 50/50 Cash Raffle drawing, player awards, door prizes, and recognition of two honorees.

Dr. Paul LehrerDr. Paul LehrerThis year’s honorees are two individuals who each have supported SERV for many years. Longtime board member Paul Lehrer, PhD. was selected by The SERV Foundation to receive The SERVice Award at VFS. Dr. Lehrer, a professor of psychiatry at Rutgers, has been on the SERV BHS board since 1979 and was instrumental in documenting SERV’s transformation to the Recovery Model in the mid-‘90s, for which SERV earned award recognition as well as publication in a prestigious psychiatric journal. Constantine Larigakis of Delran has been selected by the VFS Committee to receive the 7th Annual Lou Natale Jr. Players Award, given to an individual who has not only has played at Volley For SERV numerous times, but has supported the event through donations, as well.

Net profits from Volley For SERV will benefit The SERV Foundation Scholarship Fund for SERV consumers who wish to further their education but have little means to do so, and the annual SERV Wellness & Development Conference, a health-and-wellness educational gathering for SERV consumers with mental illness or intellectual/developmental disabilities and their families.

Volley For SERV Committee members include SERV board members and tennis players Ted Golfinopoulos, Richard Anderson and Andre Caldini; tennis players Beth Silverman-Bauman, Ben Branche, Tony Coventry, Gwen Guidice, Constantine Larigakis, Donna Nagel, Deb Osgood and Charles Villano Jr.; and SERV staff members Ida Doolan, Majken Mechling and Regina Widdows. If you would like to join the committee, contact Ida Doolan at the number below.

The cost for an individual VFS player is $210, or $400 for a team, which includes the tournament, courtside lunch, VFS tennis shirt, a commemorative team photo, giveaways, and the dinner reception. Reception-only tickets are $105 each.
